This is a great alternative to mashed potatoes based on cannellini beans (white kidney beans). It goes extremely well with most chicken, lamb, and steak recipes. If you use it as the only side dish I suggest you double the recipe below for 4 people.


  • 4 Shallots, finely sliced
  • 3 Garlic cloves, finely sliced
  • 75 ml Olive oil
  • 400 g Cannellini beans, canned
  • 2 Tbsp Cream cheese
  • 2 Tbsp Lemon juice
  • 1 Tsp Honey
  • Salt

  1. Heat the olive oil in a skillet on medium high heat
  2. Add the shallots and garlic and roast until golden brown
  3. Remove the mixture from the skillet and let it drain on a kitchentowel
  4. e the canned beans under running cold water
  5. With a food processor or hand blender, mix the beans with half of the roasted shallot and garlic mixture, cream cheese, lemon juice, honey, 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and salt to a smooth consistency
  6. Transfer the mash to a serving bowl and garnish with the rest of the roasted shallot and garlic mixture
